About the Name

The story behind the name.

In Disc Golf, players use the term 'local route' as a fun way to describe a player who got lucky as his disc found a small, unintended gap to fly through. As in, "My shot wasn't lucky, I was just taking the local route!"

We believe that the term can also be an important reminder of the most important aspects of disc golf. Getting people outside and active in their local communities. Improving local parks and advocating for local green spaces.

By 'taking the local route', we prioritize the communities our courses are located in by working with local contractors, collaborating with local businesses, and designing a course with the needs of the entire community in mind, not just the desires of the area's most avid disc golfers.

Meet the Founder

Sean McGlynn is the founder of Local Route Disc Golf.
Sean started playing disc golf in 2017 and instantly fell in love with the sport's creativity and community. Sean serves on the Professional Disc Golf Association's (PDGA) Environmental Committee, writes articles for UDisc's Release Point Blog, and has been published in the PDGA's Disc Golfer Magazine. Many of his articles focus on the importance of environmental sustainability, accessibility, outdoor recreation, and community involvement. Sean would love to bring the knowledge he's gained by playing over 150 courses and interviewing dozens of leaders in the field for his writing to help create more sustainable and accessible courses for others to enjoy.
